Speaking About Death (Never Killed Anyone)

The Goethe-Institut Portugal, in collaboration with the FILM AND DEATH project, the Doulas do Fim da Vida association, Death Café and other partners, is hosting the festival “Falar sobre a morte (nunca matou ninguém)” [Speaking About Death (Never Killed Anyone)].

The festival will open on 17 September at 17h with the opening of the sound installation Memorial Birdsongs in the Goethe-Institut garden and the photographic exhibition THIS IS HEAVEN in the Institute’s library. A brief reception will follow.

At 18h30, the opening day will continue with a screening of All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), directed by Edward Berger. The screening marks the beginning of a film programme co-organised by the FILM AND DEATH project, which will continue over the following weeks with four further screenings. Each screening will be followed by a discussion with members of the project and invited guests.

Last Breath (Costa-Gavras, 2024), followed by a discussion with Marco Grosoli (FILM AND DEATH) and Ana Maria Valinho (Doulas do Fim da Vida association)

21 October | 18h30
A Matter of Life and Death (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 1946), followed by a discussion with Vasco Baptista Marques (FILM AND DEATH)
