Female Gaze in Ukrainian War Documentary: Performing Cultural Trauma

The phenomenon of the female gaze will be considered in the context of the Ukrainian war documentary. In particular, Iryna Tsilyk’s documentary films “Tayra” (2017), “Kid” (2017) for the cinema almanac “The Invisible Battalion”, and “The Earth is Blue as an Orange” (2020) will be addressed. The films will be analyzed as cultural performances to demonstrate their contribution to the constitution, performance, and reflection on the cultural trauma of the Russian-Ukrainian war by Ukrainian society through the female gaze.
