Harrington e Rousseau: a economia política sob duas perspectivas republicanas

Vital Alves (Universidade de São Paulo)

Although James Harrington and Jean-Jacques Rousseau developed their republican theoretical frameworks in different historical contexts, they share a remarkable point of theoretical convergence: both were early proponents of debates surrounding Political Economy within their republicanisms. Building on this shared concern, the main aim of this lecture is to analyse how the discussion on “political economy” emerges and is situated in the republican thought of Harrington and Rousseau, and from this analysis, to identify further possible points of convergence and divergence in their political theories.
