Times of Destruction

Seminar
13.03 | 16h–18h
14.03 | 10h–13h, 14h–17h
Sixth-century Arabic epic poetry required each poet to begin their poem from a site of destruction, surrounded by ruins. For this seminar, we’ll be considering the act of ‘destruction’ while searching beyond the idea or pretence of reconstruction. This is an attempt to seek inspiration to work and reflect together on how to embark from times of destruction towards new possibilities for artistic engagement, creation and consideration. Taking destruction as a place to explore new artistic forms and language, the seminar shares how this has been a vital experience for many artists to work with over the past decades in Palestine under colonial rule.
