Paz by António Marques
Philosophy & Values series

The book Paz (Peace) by Full Professor and EPLab member António Marques has just been published by Edições 70. This is the fourth volume in the Filosofia & Valores (Philosophy & Values) collection, coordinated by EPLab members André Santos Campos and Susana Cadilha, alongside Hélder Telo.

This essay is a philosophical reflection on peace as an irreducible and permanent value. It is an investigation that does not aim to be merely linear or historicist; rather, it presents a genealogy of the concept of peace to highlight the similarities and differences among certain members of the same family. This historical reconstruction begins by analyzing rational solutions to the problem of peace developed by major European modern philosophers of the 17th and 18th centuries. It then focuses on Kant’s theory of perpetual peace as the central point of this narrative, extending to the proposals of contemporary authors such as Habermas, Rawls, Arendt, and Derrida.
