On the occasion of the publication of the Oxford Handbook of the Philosophy of Suicide (2026, Oxford University Press), the two editors, Paolo Stellino (IFILNOVA) and Michael Cholbi, were invited to discuss the philosophy of suicide on the American radio programme Why? Radio. The interview explores how suicide can be examined from a philosophical perspective, considering its history, controversies, and moral and cultural dimensions.

Michael Cholbi is Professor and Personal Chair in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. He has published widely in ethical theory, practical ethics, and the philosophy of death and dying. Paolo Stellino is an Appointed Research Fellow at IFILNOVA and an Invited Professor in the Department of Philosophy at NOVA FCSH. His main areas of interest are the history of philosophy, the philosophy of film, and ethics.
