Another History of Philosophy. A Tribute to Jürgen Habermas
With the participation of António Marques, Giovanni Damele, and Gabriele de Angelis

On 23 June, starting at 10:00 AM in the auditorium of the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon, the colloquium “Uma outra história da filosofia. Homenagem a Jürgen Habermas” (“Another History of Philosophy: A Tribute to Jürgen Habermas”) will take place, featuring a discussion of his latest work Eine andere Geschichte der Philosophie (Another History of Philosophy), the Portuguese translation of which has just been published by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The colloquium aims to pay tribute to the German philosopher and intellectual who has had the greatest international influence over the past few decades. Habermas turns 96 on 18 June. His work Another History of Philosophy is a key reference for philosophers, anthropologists, sociologists, historians, and theologians alike. In it, Habermas explores the historical transformations in the relationship between faith and philosophy and seeks to understand how philosophy emancipated itself from its close ties to religion, explaining the profound consequences of this transformation for the sociocultural life of the West. At the same time, Habermas reflects on how communication between philosophy and religion might continue following the separation between faith and knowledge.

The colloquium will be in Portuguese.
