Issue 63 of RCL — Revista de Comunicação e Linguagens — a special issue on “Death-Images: Revisiting Deleuze’s ‘Time-Image’ in Cinema after 1985” — has now been published, edited by CineLab members Lucas Ferraço Nassif, Marco Grosoli, Vasco Baptista Marques and Susana Viegas.
Marking forty years since the publication of Deleuze’s Cinema 2, this special issue brings together contributions that engage with contemporary cinema and its evolving relations to time and death. Across a range of case studies, death is explored as a set of cinematic strategies through which time becomes perceptible and thinkable. In dialogue with the concept of the death-image (Viegas, 2023), the issue reflects on how cinema continues to rework Deleuze’s legacy beyond the framework of the two Cinema volumes.
The special issue is available here in open access.
