Perspectives of Ukrainian Cinema

Tamara Martsenyuk

The talk is devoted to the constitution of gender narratives in Ukrainian culture. Women’s status in the Ukrainian military is the focus of the talk. The representation of women at war in Ukrainian documentary films will also be addressed.

Bio

Tamara Martsenyuk holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Recently Tamara was Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University (the United States), DAAD Visiting Professor (Germany), and Petro Yacyk Fellow (Canada). Tamara’s main research interest lies in the field of the sociology of gender. In her recent books “Defenders of the Galaxy”: the Power and Crisis in the Male World”, “Gender for All: A Challenge to Stereotypes” and “Why Not Be Afraid of Feminism?”, Tamara shares her academic research with a wide audience.
