Diego Hoefel is a research fellow at the Laboratory of Cinema and Philosophy (CineLab/Ifilnova) of the NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal. He mainly writes about the intersection between politics and contemporary media. In particular, he is now looking at how Brazilian comedies are responding to the intense social polarization currently taking place in the country. This research project is funded by the Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology (FCT) and by the European Social Fund (FSE). Hoefel is also a filmmaker and screenwriter. His previous works have been selected in many festivals, including the Cannes Critics Week, Locarno Film Festival and Rotterdam IFFR.
