The Problem of Self and Mental Illness

The sense of self has been in the last years a privileged object of philosophical reflection. One way of research these issues is to reflect about self-pathologies. The empirical data given by pathological cases is an alternative to thought experiments and a priori reflection. At the same time, philosophy can improve conceptual clarification for Psychiatry. I also believe it is not possible to really understand disorders such as schizophrenia without a philosophical intervention.
