Book presentation: The Bloomsbury Handbook of Wittgensteinian Feminism (2025)
The presentation of The Bloomsbury Handbook of Wittgensteinian Feminism (2025) will take place on 27 May at 16:00 at NOVA FCSH (room A101, Berna Campus). The session will feature presentations by Isabel Gamero (Complutense University of Madrid), Camila Lobo (IFILNOVA) and Carolina Flores (CFUL). All are welcome.
This volume offers the first sustained, in-depth examination of the intersections between philosophy and feminism in the work of Ludwig Wittgenstein, mapping the diverse approaches that define this emerging field. Structured into four thematic parts, along with an introduction by the editors, the book addresses ordinary language philosophy, moral and political thought, feminist epistemology, and conceptual approaches to gender.
The chapters, written by leading feminist philosophers, explore how ordinary language philosophy can inform and enrich ethical and political reflection. Both authoritative and wide-ranging, the volume brings greater visibility to a significant yet underrepresented area of philosophical inquiry, while underscoring the continuing influence of Wittgenstein’s thought.
Edited by Jasmin Trächtler, Isabel G. Gamero Cabrera, Camille Braune, and Sandra Laugier, the book also features a contribution by IFILNOVA member Camila Lobo. The volume can be ordered via Bloomsbury Academic.
This is the second of a series of seminars on forthcoming or recently published Wittgensteinian works within the scope of the activities of the Lisbon Wittgenstein Group, coordinated by Nuno Venturinha.
