NOVA FCSH will introduce, from 2026 onwards, a specialisation in Philosophy of Art within the Master’s degree in Philosophy.
The Philosophy of Art specialisation is organised around the following academic fields: Aesthetics, History of Philosophy, and History of Philosophy/Aesthetics. It also includes a Free Option (Opção Livre), allowing students to choose curricular units from any academic field, thus promoting flexible and interdisciplinary study pathways.
The teaching staff comprises researchers of recognised academic standing: João Constâncio, Maria João Mayer Branco, Bartholomew Ryan, Nélio Conceição and Paolo Stellino, integrated members of IFILNOVA, as well as João Pedro Cachopo, a member of CESEM and collaborator with IFILNOVA.
With this new specialisation, NOVA FCSH strengthens its commitment to advanced teaching in philosophy and aesthetics, offering students a solid and up-to-date education in the central issues of Philosophy of Art, in dialogue with both the philosophical tradition and contemporary debates.
The first application phase for the Master’s programme ends on 9 February 2026. The second phase will run from 13 February to 13 April 2026. If places remain available after the previous phases, a third application phase will open from 15 April to 15 June 2026.
For further information about the Philosophy of Art specialisation, please consult the Call for Applications and the Curriculum Structure (both in Portuguese).
This new educational offer is introduced without prejudice to the continued operation of the Master’s degree in Aesthetics and Art Studies, which will remain in place.
