Paulo Portugal is a PhD student in Art Studies — Art and Mediation at NOVA FCSH, under the supervision of professor Maria Irene Aparício. With a Master’s Degree in Aesthetics and Artistic Studies (NOVA FCSH). He is currently developing research (with an FCT grant) on the reconfigurations of cinephilia in the digital age, with the FILMar project as the object of study. He has a career spanning more than three decades as a film journalist, having participated in several international festivals: Cannes, Berlin, Venice, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Toulouse, Lyon, Bologna, Yerevan, among others. At FCSH he founded CINEblog and organized three film journalism workshops at the Berlinale, in collaboration with IFILNOVA. He is the founder of the Somos Humanos Association, dedicated to an approach to cinema and human rights.
