Paulo Portugal is a PhD student in Art Studies — Art and Mediation at NOVA FCSH, under the supervision of Professor Maria Irene Aparício. In the future, he intends to develop an investigation around the digitalization process of Portuguese cinema. In 2021, he completed his master’s degree on “Travel, Detour, Transfiguration — The interior monologue as an act of resistance in the rebirth of mise en scène”, also under the supervision of Professor Irene Aparício. He has a career of more than two decades as a film journalist, participating in dozens of international festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Toulouse, Lyon, Bologna, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Miami, Zanzibar. He was president of the FIPRESCI jury for the 2019 edition of the Cannes film festival. At FCSH he founded CINEblog and has already organized two film journalism workshops at the Berlinale, within IFILNOVA.
