The Film-Phil Lisbon Seminars: Christine Greiner

Death-Image: modes of existence

November’s Film-Phil Lisbon Seminar will be led by Christine Greiner (Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo), who will talk about the “Death-Image: modes of existence”. The session will be held on November 27, 2025, at 17:00 WET, online, via Microsoft Teams. To receive information about joining the meeting online, it’s mandatory to register in advance here.

Abstract

Based on Vinciane Despret’s studies on the philosopher Étienne Souriau and the urgency of establishing modes of existence for the dead (and for death), we propose a conversation about the Japanese cinema of the 1960s, especially the short-films inspired by the Butoh thought of Tatsumi Hijikata: as was the case of Navel and A-Bomb by Eikoh Hosoe and War Games by Donald Richie.
