6 RESEARCH GRANTS FOR POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW
CALL OPEN UNTIL NOVEMBER 2 (5 PM)

The Nova Institute of Philosophy is seeking to recruit 6 (six) Post-Doc Fellows within the scope of the Project UIDP/00183/2020, financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT/MCTES – PIDDAC). The call is open between 19 October and 17:00 (Lisbon time) on 2 November 2022.

BIPD/01/CultureLab (1 research grant)

  • Area of Research: Philosophy / Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art
  • The selected candidate must develop a work plan within the scope of CultureLab – Laboratory of Culture and Value activities and guidelines. More specifically, this work plan should: 1) Develop research in the field of Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art; 2) Take part in the work that is being developed in the Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art Group on aesthetic values, from the perspective of their historical-philosophical transformation and the challenges of contemporaneity – both in the social, cultural and political context of new forms of experience and sensibility, and in the context of art and different artistic practices; 3) Submitting articles for publication in peer reviewed journals; 4) Presenting papers in the Laboratory and in national and international conferences; 5) Participate in the preparation of research projects to be submitted to competitive examinations.

BIPD/02/CultureLab (1 research grant)

  • Area of Research: Philosophy / Ancient Philosophy
  • The selected candidate must develop a work plan within the scope of CultureLab – Laboratory of Culture and Value activities and guidelines. More specifically, this work plan should: 1) Develop research in the field of Ancient Philosophy; 2) Take part in the work that is being developed in the Research Group in Ancient Philosophy, focusing on texts and themes from ancient philosophy connected to the question of values (such as truthfulness, the beautiful and the good), as well as the implication of these texts in the elaboration of current philosophical problems concerning values; for example, the reception of ancient philosophy at key moments in Western thought, namely in the so-called “modernity” (Hegel, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Foucault, among others); 3) Submitting articles for publication in peer reviewed journals; 4) Presenting papers in the Laboratory and in national and international conferences; 5) Participate in the preparation of research projects to be submitted to competitive examinations.

  • Area of Research: Philosophy / Moral Philosophy
  • The selected candidate must develop a work plan within the scope of EPLab – Laboratory of Ethics and Political Philosophy activities and guidelines. The successful candidate will develop the following research and dissemination tasks: 1) Developing research in the field of Moral Philosophy; 2) Supporting the development of the work plan of the laboratory(s) in direct articulation with the Coordinator and the rest of the laboratory team; 3) Participation in national and international conferences related to the application’s area of research; 4) Writing and submission of articles related to the application’s area of research (submission of at least one article per year in indexed journals – Scopus, Web of Science); 5) Participation in the elaboration and development of projects and participation in the elaboration and development of European projects; 6) when necessary, participation in knowledge dissemination and training activities.

  • The selected candidate must develop a work plan within the scope of EPLab – Laboratory of Ethics and Political Philosophy activities and guidelines. BIPD/05/ArgLab (2 research grants)

  • Area of Research: Philosophy, Reasoning and Argumentation
  • The successful candidates should develop a work plan within the activities and guidelines of the ArgLab – Argumentation, Cognition and Language Lab. More specifically, this work plan will imply: 1) Development of research within the scope of epistemic injustice through cognitive or linguistic angles, with a descriptive or normative direction. Descriptively, the research work can focus on the way epistemic injustice works in a specific context as, for example, in public healthcare controversies. Normatively, research can focus on how activism and epistemic resistance can be fomented in a specific context, including the way in which argumentative ethics and design can work in epistemic resistance; 2) Carrying out research activities involving the analysis of public arguments in different domains (e.g. health, politics, law, science, technology, etc.); 3) Participation in national and international conferences relating to the application themes; 4) Participation in the activities and meetings of the ArgLab – Argumentation, Cognition and Language Lab; 5) Writing and submitting papers relating to the application themes (submission of at least one paper each year in indexed scientific journals – Scopus, Web of Science); 6) Participation in project design and development and in European project design and development.
